A boutique, off grid unschooling festival held at Sparrow Camp, Halstead, UK

Unschooling can sometimes feel like a lonely, radical path. We want to invite you to five days amongst nature, surrounded by a clan who understand you heart and soul!

Take this deep rest for your hearts as you surround yourself with other everyday visionaries dedicated to raising their kids outside of school.

Book a family bell tent, bring a campervan or pitch your own canvas.

We have a diverse range of kids from tinies to teens and something for everyone:

Campfire Singalongs

A ridiculous and delightful cabaret

Sacred Circles

Bushcraft

Forest and orchards

A massive dome for communal life

A family disco for hilarious dancing and dress ups

Life- changing workshops

Campervans allowed (just email us to let us know after booking)

FAQs:
What do I need to bring? There are GREAT camping facilities – showers, toilets, outdoor kitchens, indoor spaces but you will need the usual camping requirements.

If you have booked a bell tent these come fully furnished- just bring a towel.

Can I bring my campervan?  Yes! We often have a little motorhome village. This year vehicles are allowed on to tent sites which is going to make everything a lot easier at arrivals!

Is there a camp schedule and do we need to pay for workshops? All workshops and activities are no extra cost, and run by parents on a day and time that suits them. We have the schedule on the wall in the shared space and it morphs and grows!!  Some things go on the calendar that don’t eventuate and other things pop up out of no where. Camp Kindred is super fluid and go with the flow, it attracts a lot of people who are pretty loose so there is a sort of trust and surrender vibe to the agenda.

Is there an expectation that all parents volunteer in some capacity (running an activity or community game etc) and how do we find out more?

Whilst there is no expectation at all, it is hoped that each family will bring something little or big to contribute. This is part of what makes it so magical. Some parents will run workshops or a game, or bring archery equipment or baking or just their good vibes! Some people can’t bring something for years because they are in the trenches – and then one year blow us away with something amazing! There’s a lot of trust and unconditional positive regard around here.

Must we attend the full camp or can we arrive part way through etc?

You can come for a portion of it, you just have to buy the whole family ticket and honestly, you won’t want to miss a moment of it!

Is there any pond/lake/pool onsite that we need to be aware of for littles? There is no water onsite but there is wild swimming 20 minutes away and we might do some day trips there.

What if I don’t want my children to be in photos?
We love capturing the joy of camp and whilst it’s not a major/ noticeable part we do use photos to tell people about this beautiful event. If you’d prefer your child not to appear in any published images, simply let us know when you register.

For children whose parents have asked us not to publish their photos, we are implementing a simple coloured wristband system so our people know who to avoid including in shots. It’s discreet, easy, and means everyone can enjoy the day without worry.

Can I get a refund if we change our minds? No. Refund requests with good reason will be considered up until August 5th but please bear in mind that this event is a labour of love and refunds make this difficult to offer sustainably.
