Disco is Latin for “learn” – because home education should embody the kind of freedom and joy you see when people are throwing shapes on the dance floor!

Are you drawn to the unschooling life but feel overwhelmed by the prospect? Enter this safe space to go deeply into your motivations, address your fears and resistance and become excited about the possibility of a life with your kids at home, learning in a self-directed and curriculum-free way.

Who is DISCO for?

This course is for parents considering or doing Self Directed Learning at home – otherwise known as life learning or unschooling. You have imagined a different childhood for your kids, one where they feel able to grow into exactly who they are rather than squeezed into a box, one where their energy and creativity has full expression, where their rights and dignity are upheld, but you have a few questions and concerns to work through before saying a full YES to that childhood!

“DISCO has provided me with a quiet inner confidence which I can now take with me and further develop. Doing the course on a Sunday has set me up for each coming week and I’ve felt calmer and stronger as a result. So enjoyable.” DISCO – June participant “Energising, invigorating and nourishing. As someone who was already committed to unschooling, DISCO really bolstered my confidence and gave me lots more reasons to continue happily on this path!” DISCO – June participant “DISCO is that reassuring best friend with all the knowledge and self worth ready and waiting to champion you to be your truest self.” DISCO – June participant

What people say about DISCO:

” I can’t really sum up how valuable the experience of doing DISCO was for me. I was absolutely committed to unschooling from the moment I took my first baby home. Now she is school age and my own tension and paranoia around what learning looks like had interrupted those intentions. DISCO helped me and my husband root-out those irrational fears and unhealthy attitudes to learning from our own pasts and now when we talk about our children’s learning there is joy and a deep understanding between us. DISCO has addressed all the needs behind those worries; it’s rekindled my passion for life-learning and given me the boost I needed to face down those demons from my own, very academic, upbringing. I’d definitely recommend this course for those already unschooling, but who feel they need to deschool themselves or want to find an online community to grow and learn with. Thank you to Lucy and thank you to all my DISCO people for creating this wonderful support network!” Eleanor, UK

“It’s easy to find the definition of unschooling on the internet, but it’s not so easy putting it into practice. Lucy’s DISCO course explains how to unschool. She has practical tips and so much experience and she shares it without judgement or expectation.” Nicole. Cape Town

“Before I did the DISCO course, if people asked which school my daughter would be going to, I’d answer with ‘erm, I’m not sure…..’ since doing the course i confidently say ‘she’s not! We will unschool’!! The course has given me so much confidence when it comes to unschooling, and Lucy is just FAB! She is so passionate and really cares about us and our unschooling journey.” Alice, UK

“At the start of the course I knew that I wanted to find a different way of doing things for my children, but it was more based on not wanting to send them to school, and I was starting to feel a little run down and questioning my ability to do it all… whereas now I feel so inspired and re-energised, and certain that I actively want to unschool – rather than it being a default – and I have so much great information and inspiration from DISCO to remind me of that, and to inform others who are curious/questioning.” Magdelene, Germany

“Lucy, these sessions are way surpassing my expectations! They’re hitting the nail on the head.” Rebecca, NZ

“The discovery and learning each week, the sharing, the 2 hours to myself each Monday. This is absolutely self care in my mind. I’m really enjoying taking the time to delve into something I believe so wholeheartedly in and being led by hand so to speak. (Can’t thank you enough Lucy) Cast the fears aside. I got this, and am excited!!” Amy, NZ

Here’s the kind of goodness we navigate through:

Week One

In Week One we put your firmly on the map, so you know where you are, where you want to go and how you are going to get there! We begin to explore any fears and resistance, to clear the way for imagining a different future. We take a brief historical tour of education and start to understand why we so deeply yearn for something different for our family.

Week Two

We discover how children learn and why traditional schooling is failing our children. We bed down in our understanding of how unschooling supports learning and see the unique ways the unschooled child ends up with all the important stuff from a traditional curriculum under their belt. We address one of the most common fears around self-directed learning – learning to read. This module is designed to help you feel more confident when responding to concerns from family members about your choices.

Week Three

In Week Three we take a macro look at the importance of re-imagining childhood and education. Why are we trying to solve 21st century problems with 19th century education models and curriculum? What are the kinds of skills children are going to need and how can we facilitate our kids having access to them? Module three will strengthen your resolve in the power of self directed learning for a better future, and your desire to have a child able to contribute to it.

Week Four

In our last week together we look at the practical aspects of self directed learning at home and how people make this work in different circumstances. What are you going to need and how are you going to access it? I introduce the “Four C’s” of successful unschooling. You lean in to your vision of yourself as an unschooling family and finish with the fuel to achieve it!

BONUS: Disco provides the opportunity to enter a Membership Programme at the end where you get access to an incredible group of unschoolers and mentors who specialise in a range of unschooling hats including neurodiversity and creating unschooling collectives.
